Fantasy Football Projections

Fantasy football projections are a bit different than fantasy rankings. Rankings will just give you a numbered list from the number one player to whatever number they decide to go up to. Projections are actual statistics that someone projects a player to have by the end of the year.
Sometimes new players (or even older experts) mix up the terms which is then more confusing to people trying to learn how to play fantasy football. They two concepts are very similar, but they have different uses when your planning your roster or cheatsheets.
A sample fantasy football ranking list:
1. Runnngback(RB) Chris Johnson /Tennessee Titans
2. RB Adrian Peterson/Minnesota Vikings
3. RB Maurice Jones-Drew/Jacksonville Jaguars And so on...
A sample of fantasy football projections
1. RB Chris Johnson/Titans -1735 Rushing Yards, 503 receiving yards, 12 Touchdown(TD)
2. RB Adrian Peterson/Vikings-1650 Rushing Yards, 333 receiving yards, 13 TD
3. RB Maurice Jones-DrewJaguars-1291 Rushing Yards, 447 receiving yards, 10 TD
4. Wide Receiver Randy Moss/Patriots 89 receptions, 1300 receiving yards, 12 TD
5. Quarter Back(QB) Drew Brees/Saints 4447 passing yards, 26 TD, 10 Interceptions
You can see that projections usually include the ranking system as well. While this probably wouldn't be an actual top 5, these are just to give you an idea of what would be projected for each position.
As you can see, projections are much more specific. Fantasy football projections are a prediction of points you are estimating that a player could earn in the future. Projections help you build out your rankings.
I did my own projections a few seasons ago and found that it's pretty much the same as ranking your players anyway, so to me it just seemed like a little extra effort that wasn't really needed. As long as you have a solid ranking system, I think projections may just be a little over-rated. However, if you do prefer using a website that uses projections, here is a strategy that may be able to help you.
Simply compare how the fantasy football website posted rankings compares to where you think the player should be ranked. You can then move them up and down depending on if you think they will do better or worse than what has been projected.
However, remember that each website may have very different projections for players. Projections are based upon points. The point system varies from league to league.
This can give you a good feel on developing your own rankings, and by using this method in conjunction with all of the other sources you choose to use, it could help you develop a winning team.

2010 Tennessee Titans Predictions

In 2008, the Tennessee Titans ended Indy's reign at the top of the AFC South by posting an NFL-best 13-3 regular season record. But the Titans were not able to build on their impressive 2008 campaign. In fact, they were 0-6 before you could even blink last season.

Tennessee's horrific start prompted head coach Jeff Fisher to give quarterback Vince Young another shot. The move paid off as Tennessee went on to finish the year 8-2. It was too little too late in terms of the playoffs, but the Titans' second half surge has them very confident as they enter their 2010 campaign.

Offense: Led by running back Chris Johnson, the Titans boasted the No. 2 ranked rushing offense in the NFL last season. Johnson was nothing short of spectacular as he became only the sixth back in NFL history to eclipse the 2,000 yard mark in a single season. Johnson also proved to be a major asset in the passing game, catching 50 passes for 503 yards. He will be the focal point of the Tennessee offense once again.

Young got the shot he was looking for, and he took full advantage, leading the Titans to eight wins in 10 games while posting a quarterback rating of 82.8, the highest of his career. Tennessee's strong running attack will give Young plenty of play-action opportunities.

The Titans will also need Young to make plays with his legs. He is not a pure pocket passer, but he is a great athlete. Making teams respect his ability to pull it down and run will make the offense even more feared.

Nate Washington and Kenny Britt lead a receiving corps that will get an added boost from rookie Damian Williams

Michael Roose, David Stewart, Eugene Amamo and Jake Scott return to form one of the best blocking units in football.

Defense: Because of Johnson, Tennessee's offense has the potential to give opponents headaches, but it will be all for not if the defense can't hold up on its end of the bargain. The Titans ranked No. 28 in the NFL in scoring defense last season, giving up 25.1 points per game. Their disappointing pass defense was responsible for most of those points. In fact, the Titans finished next to last in the league in passing defense, allowing 258.7 yards per game.

While Kyle Vanden Bosch and Keith Bulluck have found new homes, I'm confident that Tennessee will defend much better in 2010.

Stud tackle Tony Brown anchors a solid line that will get a boost from rookie defensive end Derrick Morgan. The linebacker corps will miss Bulluck, but veterans Will Witherspoon and Stephen Tulloch will keep this unit respectable.

There is far too much talent in the secondary for the Titans to defend the pass as poorly as they did last year. Cornerback Cortland Finnegan, who tallied five interceptions in 2009, and Pro Bowl safeties Michael Griffin and Chris Hope are all solid, and there is a lot of competition for the other corner spot, where the addition of rookie corner Alterraun Verner provides depth.

Prediction: 2nd AFC South - 2009 left a sour taste in the mouth of the Titans. They'll want nothing more than to get rid of that taste with a playoff berth, which is very much in the cards when you consider how close they came last season despite an 0-6 start. Be sure to check out my 2010 NFL predictions to see which teams I like to win their respective divisions this season.

Rookie Running Backs

For as long as I can remember, there's been an adjustment period for running backs as they come into the NFL. No matter how highly touted a running back prospect was, their first year was spent on the bench and in blocking situations to learn the ropes. Whether it's due to increasingly more pro-style offenses in college or simply coaches being more willing to let rookies spread their wings, there has clearly been an increase this year in rookie running back productivity. 3 rookies (Chris Johnson, Steve Slaton, and Matt Forte) rank among the top 15 yardage leaders in the NFL, with several others Tim Hightower, Jonathan Stewart, Darren McFadden, Felix Jones) falling in shortly behind, while each showing flashes of brilliance early.

All of the above mentioned running backs are part of a 2-back tandem except for Matt Forte, and that makes Forte an intriguing prospect. As a rookie, Forte is proving a capable feature back on a team that enters its bye week tied for the division lead. Forte has received 20 or more carries in all but two of the Bears games this season, and currently ranks 4th among all running backs in the NFL with 147 carries. He came into an extremely advantageous situation in Chicago, who had recently been disillusioned by Cedric Benson's lackluster attempt at power running game. Forte has a consistent running style (he has 0 fumbles all season) that fits well into Chicago's possession-based style of offense, and he has taken full advantage of his opportunities as a rookie starter.

Steve Slayton, on the other hand, earned his touches due to injuries to Ahman Green. He wasted little time showing the Texans that was a weapon to be utilized even when Green is healthy. Nicknamed "The Slasher" for his quick cuts and slashing play-style, Slayton also has proven himself to be a capable target out of the backfield, even while the Texans have been losing games. He has scored a touchdown in all but two of the Texans games, including the games he had to split time with Green in. Slayton has all the components to be a terrific positional player as a finesse back in a two-back system, and if the Texans could find a better compliment than Green, it could be one of the most dominant backfields in the NFL.

Speaking of the most dominant backfield on the NFL, another rookie, Chris Johnson, can boast that he is a part of it. Johnson and LenDale White (the NFL's touchdown leader) have formed a tandem so potent that it has carried the Titans to an undefeated record despite the loss of Vince Young. Johnson leads all starting backs with 5.1 yards per carry, and ranks 5th with 626 yards, which would be an impressive stat-line for a feature back, let alone someone splitting time with the NFL's touchdown leader. He's even managed to find the end zone himself 5 times. Once Vince Young returns to this offense, I'm not sure they'll even bother to line up wide receivers any more - just run, run, run, run.

While the position of RB has never been an old man's game, it's never been more clear that rookies can make an impact on their teams, and some can even be the difference maker that pushes their team over the edge.

Tennessee Titans Fantasy Football

The Tennessee Titans came of age in 2008 posting a 13-3 record and claiming the AFC South title knocking the Indianapolis Colts off of their perch. However, the season failed to end the way the Titans hoped as they were defeated 13-10 by the Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional Playoffs. The end of my fantasy season was far more favorable than the Titans as I claimed my 2nd Super Bowl title in 10 years. One of the big reasons I was celebrating around Christmas time when other owners were crying in their beer is Titans RB Chris Johnson. It all started in August when I saw Johnson break a long TD run during a pre-season game and I was amazed at his speed and I kept that vision in my head when my draft day came rolling around. I managed to steal Johnson in the 14th round of my draft and rode that train along with fellow rookie sensation Matt Forte to a championship and about $1100.00. Will Johnson be able to duplicate his success for 2009? Who are some of the other Titans to keep an eye on for the upcoming season? Let's take a look at the Titans fantasy potential heading into 2009.

Needless to say that Johnson was an integral part of my team last year on a weekly basis. Johnson splashed onto the NFL scene with 1228 yards and 9 TD's and also chipped in with 43 receptions for 260 yds and 1 TD. Amazingly, there could have been so much more but Johnson continuously lost goal line reps and subsequently TD's to Lendale "Cheeseburger" White. Week in and week out I would just sit him and wonder what kind of numbers Johnson would have if White were not around. Cheeseburger himself accounted for 773 yards on the ground but scored an astonishing 15 TD's. As much as fantasy owners hated Head Coach Jeff Fisher for this the bottom line is that the Johnson/White platoon scenario (eloquently nicknamed "smash and dash") proved to be extremely successful for Tennessee and because of that success don't expect much to change this year. Can Johnson repeat his extraordinary rookie campaign? In the mock drafts that I have been doing recently Johnson has been going anywhere from 8th to 16th overall and as I have mentioned in other posts I am not really sold on any of the top rated backs. They all have major questions including Johnson. First, Johnson will not sneak up on the NFL this year as he did in 2008. Furthermore, White will surely continue to steal the majority of goal line touches meaning Johnson will likely have to break a long run to score. If in my draft it comes down to taking him or say Larry Fitzgerald I will be taking Fitz just because it is a safer pick. Regardless, Johnson is a great pick but if you select him know that you will be losing a lot of TD's to White so be prepared for that. As for the Cheeseburger himself, I actually like him more than Johnson this year simply due to the aforementioned reasons.

Bottom line is that you are looking for TD's in fantasy football and White scored 15 of them last year and most likely will post at least 10 more this year. Moreover, White can be had at a far greater value than Johnson as he has been going in the neighborhood of the 5th-6th round in the drafts I have participated in thus far. In summary, both these guys will produce. Tennessee is a run first team and I have not heard anything coming out of Nashville indicating a change is forthcoming even with the acquisition of WR Kenny Britt from Rutgers. Treat Johnson is a number 1 back and White is a low end number 2 or high end number 3 RB.

Historically, when discussing the Titans receiving corps fantasy owners utilized that time to do various family chores such as taking out the trash or reading stories to their children rather than participate in the discussion. Basically what I am trying to say is that Tennessee's WR'shave been non-existent in terms of fantasy production for some time. The Titans are desperately hoping that Britt starts to change all of that. Fisher usually refrains from taking receivers in the first round but even he realized how desperate the situation had become at the position. Britt is an immense talent and is a nice choice in keeper and dynasty leagues however, he will more than likely go undrafted in most traditional formats. Keep an eye on him but keep expectations to a minimum. In terms of the other Titan receivers it is quite simple: Justin Gage may be worth a late round flier but no other Titan receiver including TE Bo Scaife is worth spending any type of draft selection on come August.

The Titans DST was a solid unit in 2008 but suffered a huge off season loss with the departure of DT Albert Haynesworth who signed with the Washington Redskins as a free agent. Keith Bullock still anchors down the defense but anyone who thinks the Titans will not miss Haynesworth is dreaming. Consider the Titans DST a number 1 option but keep expectations realistic without the big man in the middle. That concludes my examination of the AFC South. Next up: The AFC North and I will be starting with the defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburg Steelers.

Does The NFL Needs A New Statistic?

Statistics have always been a big part of sports, and in football there are tons of them. At the end of every year NFL players can marvel at themselves and keep track of how many yards, touchdowns, tackles, sacks, interceptions, or field goals that they stacked up in the previous season. But it just feels like there is something missing.

With all the recent rule changing in the NFL, I propose that they add a new stat to the list: times arrested. It's becoming so common recently that it would almost be a crime not to have it as a stat. The NFL could have league leaders and even hand out a pretty trophy to the biggest outlaw every year; it would be great.

Speaking of the biggest outlaw, Adam "Pacman" Jones might actually make his way onto the football field in the 2008 season, after being suspended for the entire 2007 season.
It's not really clear exactly how many times Pacman Jones has been arrested, but it falls somewhere between two and six. A few days ago Jones had a lengthy interview with the Michael Irvin Show and finally took responsibility for his actions, said he is a changed man, and that he promises to do gooder. You really got to hand it to the guy because he hasn't been in legal trouble for over two months; good for you Pacman, keep that streak alive for a few more days.

In the last few weeks the Dallas Cowboys, America's Team (of Criminals), have expressed interest in Jones and it's really looking like he'll get to hang out with his law-breaking buddy, Tank Johnson, in Dallas. I say that Cowboy's owner, Jerry Jones, just goes to a jail and pick up some guys for his team because it will probably leave him in a better situation.

5 Things the Steelers Must Do to Beat the Titans

5. Continued improvement by Dennis Dixon
Dixon made his second start in the NFL against Atlanta and his inexperience showed. He threw one interception and nearly threw a couple others. Fortunately the Falcon defense couldn't make the plays. Dixon did have his good moments too. He threw a perfect pass to Mike Wallace for a long completion, not an easy thing to do since Wallace can outrun most throws. Dixon was known as an accurate passer in college and hit 18 of 26 passes in this game. He should continue to improve with additional time with the first team offense allowing him to get in sync with his receivers more. Look for the Titans to stack the line until DD proves he can beat them with his passing. He must play better in this game to beat the Titans in their home.

4. More consistent play from Rashard Mendenhall
Because the Falcons did not believe that Dennis Dixon could beat them with his arm, they stacked the line and challenged him to do it. Because of this Mendenhall was tackled for losses several times. Maybe this will be the season Mendenhall becomes the runner they thought he would be when they drafted him, but he must avoid all those negative yardage plays. If he did not have the game winner against Atlanta, most would have probably considered that an average to below average performance for him. Mendenhall needs to turn some of those negative yardage plays into gains for the Steelers to be on the winning side at the end of this game.

3. Backups will have to step up
Max Starks left the Atlanta game with what most thought was a high ankle sprain. This is an injury that most players and fans have come to realize can cost the player several games while trying to heal. Casey Hampton also left the game with a hamstring injury. If that is not given proper time to heal hamstring injuries will come back throughout the season. Behind these 2 players on the depth chart are Chris Hoke for Hampton and Jonathan Scott for Starks. These two have to step up and provide quality play for the Steelers to win. Hoke must plug the hole and keep the rushing defense from giving up big plays by Chris Johnson. Scott must keep the Titans defense from attacking Dixon, something he didn't do well against the Falcons. If he is not able to do what is needed there may be some major shifting of the offensive line going on. The prognosis is good for Starks though. He may be back by the next game. Hampton will be week to week. Backups, in general, need to step up for the Steelers to continue winning.

2. Keep Vince Young in the pocket
Vince Young is not the most accurate passer in the league. His feet and his running back are his weapons. The Steelers must keep him in the pocket and keep him from improvising to win this game. The more he throws the better the chances the Steelers have. The more he gets out of the pocket and uses his feet the less the chance the Steelers have in this game.

1. Hold Chris Johnson under 100 yards
It is no secret in the NFL that Chris Johnson is probably the elite running back in the league. If there's any doubt just remember the 2,000 yard club. He is one of the few members of this club. So, it is also no secret to Titans opponents what their game plan is, run, run, run. If the Steelers can stop Chris Johnson their chances to win this game are very good. The good news is this is the strength of the Steelers. Look for Johnson to be around 75 yards by the end of the game.

The Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans kicked off their first football game of the 2008 opener against the Jacksonville jaguars. The Titans have some really young players that can come in and do some extremely large damage to their opponents. Titans quarterback Vince Young came out and was suppose to be questionable about playing in yesterdays game but ended up playing. He did really well, coach Fischer knew he did good but the problem they faced was that he got injured in the fourth quarter against the 17 to 10 win against the jaguars. The training staff said that he sprained his knee, so it was nothing major. Young should be expected to play next week.

Here are some statistics for the titans in yesterdays win which put them in first in the division up 1-0. Vince Young threw 12 completed passes on 22 attempts for a total number of 110 yards and he added one touchdown to youngster running back from Eastern Carolina and he also threw two interceptions that could of changed the game by a big lead. Johnson running back for the Titans had 93 rushing yards which really helped the Titans get passed this victory. The most effective thing that helped the Titans out of anything though was their defense. Their defense really stunk last year, but they got it together this year by receiving Albert Hansworth's health issues back to normal.

The Titans should be able to make it to the playoffs this year and might be able to go to the Super bowl. What is good about the Titans offense if that they have so many explosive running backs. Chris Brown, Chris Henry, and the new running back from Eastern Carolina is just amazing! Scoring is first career touchdown pass yesterday had to be a great feeling for him. As he went to the sidelines keeping his touchdown ball. In my opinion, if I gave the titans advice if they wanted to make it to the super bowl, I would tell them that every single impact player needs to stay healthy. If they continue to get hurt like Vince Young, they will just suffer.

Titans at Jets Game Breakdown

The Jets are riding high after starting 2-0 and defeating their division rivals, the Patriots, last week. The Titans, on the other hand, suffered 2 tough losses and will travel to New York in search of their first win this season.

Titans on Offense Tennessee has been relying heavily on the running game, and with Chris Johnson's 284 yards of total offense against the Texans last week, they will probably stick with that game plan against the Jets. But the Titans' offensive line will have a tough time in the trenches when they face Shaun Ellis, Kris Jenkins and company. So far this season, Rex Ryan's defensive unit has allowed the fewest yards per game in the league (241.0) and held the Patriots to just 9 points in Gillette Stadium. Expect the Jets to pressure Kerry Collins and force him to make throws he is not comfortable making, which may lead to a turnover or two by the Jets secondary. But Collins should get some help from Chris Johnson in the passing attack, as well as WR's Justin Gage and rookie Kenny Britt. Still, Tennessee's rushing attack has to excel against the Jets' dynamic defense. LenDale White needs to show up and Chris Johnson has to break out for more than a few big plays to keep Tennessee in the game.

Jets on Offense Mark Sanchez has surprised most after being tested and winning his first 2 games as a pro. The Titans' defense will play inspired and look to rattle Sanchez's confidence early on, so Sanchez needs to calm his spirits and make good decisions. Javon Kearse, Kyle Vanden Bosch and the rest of Tennessee's D-line will challenge New York, but the Jets' explosive O-line should have the upper hand and establish the run with Thomas Jones. Leon Washington's presence will take a lot of pressure off Sanchez by setting him up with good field position and acting as a safe option in the passing attack. The Jets may need strong performances from WR's Jerrico Cotchery and Chansi Stuckey, who will be facing two tough CB's in Courtland Finnegan and Nick Harper. The Jets need to play smart football and avoid turnovers in order to win. But that doesn't mean they should play conservative; the Titans may be 0-2, but they are a lot tougher than what their record shows.

Prediction: NYJ - 23 Tennessee -17

Chris Johnson and the Tennessee Titans in 2010

If you were going to make a bet on the Titans but were worried about the position of running back Chris Johnson, you can relax.

The NFL's leading rusher will be in camp as the Tennessee Titans and Johnson came to an agreement that will take care of his position for the upcoming football season. Johnson headed the league last year in rushing and he is a competitor that makes a big difference in any game.

Odds on Tennessee post them as 28-1 dark horse prospects to win next year's Super Bowl. Without Johnson those odds would be 40-1 or even worse. The Tennessee Titans can not afford to be without him, since he is one of the best players in the league. The Tennessee Titans are planning to increase Johnson's contract for this season without completely renegotiating the contract. Johnson would have made only about $500,000 this season according to his original deal, but with the new arrangement he will get about $2 million. Johnson was considering holding out if anything was not done with his contract and the Tennessee Titans did not have any other option but to do something. League stats showed that Johnson made an NFL single-season record last season for the most yards obtained from scrimmage.

In the meantime, this compromise deal was sufficient to get him to training camp, though Johnson is still hoping to get a new, better deal worked out with the Tennessee Titans. The alteration in Johnson's current deal is in fact very simple as the squad is paying him $1.5 million in terms of incentive bonuses in 2010 instead of in 2012. Johnson is not worried about 2012, however, since he can expect to have a new package in place long before then.

Johnson was selected to the Pro Bowl as a starter in both of the years that he has played with the NFL and has become one of the NFL's top players. In fact, he broke Marshall Faulk's record of total yards from scrimmage and became the 6th running back in NFL history to rush over 2,000 yards in his second year with the NFL. After he recorded the second fastest ever record for a running back at the NFL Scouting Combine, he was a 24th total draft pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. In 2009, he was named the NFL's Offensive Player of the Year.

Tennessee was a great squad in the football season only 2 years ago, but last year they began with a lackluster 0-6 record. They turned things around during the season and went 8-2 the rest of the way but still failed to qualify for the playoffs. Vince Young played well at quarterback and Johnson ripped through opposing defenses. Optimism in Tennessee is high again with Johnson ready to go with a deal for this season. Whether or not Young can keep his head screwed on straight is always a problem, but the Tennessee Titans can at least rest assured that Johnson will be carrying the offensive load in 2010. Tennessee could be worth a look now that the situation relating to Johnson has been sorted out, at least for now.

Top Ten Teams in the NFL

Here is my description of the top ten teams in the NFL. This season looks to be a roller coaster and a lot of teams will have trouble staying on top of this list. This was written after week seven so things may change from now to later in the season.

10. Dallas Cowboys: They are 4-3 in their division, and that is one tough NFC East division. The Redskins and Giants make for tough competition. Plus the Eagles don't just rollover on teams. They have struggled lately, due in part to injuries and suspensions, (cough, cough, Pac Man Jones).

9. New England Patriots: Even without Tom Brady the Patriots are still winning games. Matt Cassel is decent from time to time enough to get things done. The defense has been getting fired up recently as they held the high powered Denver offense to seven points.

8. Carolina Panthers: Jake Delhomme and Steve Smith are back to their old habits; winning. Their offense is clicking on all cylinders. Their defensive backs Ken Lucas and Chris Gamble keep opponents from easily getting to the end zone.

7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jon Gruden has formed another great offense with this Buccaneers team. It seems they throw on every down. Jeff Garcia is looking to be in his best from this season. Their defense could use work, but is still good enough to slow down opponents.

6. Arizona Cardinals: Kurt Warner is looking good at quarterback this year. He has many targets to throw to in Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin. At running back Edgerrin James and Tim Hightower combine for a decent combo in the back field. They have some of the better safeties in the league on defense.

5. Washington Redskins: Second in their division the Redskins are showing they can be one of the best in the league. Jason Campbell is proving to everyone that he is for real and is keeping his starting job. Santana Moss has been off and on this season, but puts up big numbers when he is on.

4. Buffalo Bills: Trent Edwards and Lee Evans provide a powerful punch at quarterback and wide receiver. Buffalo is on top of their division and will have to fight off and climbing Patriots team.

3. Pittsburgh Steelers: Don't over look this team, they are undefeated in their division and conference. They are also on a three game winning streak. Good offense with Ben Roethlesberger and Hines Ward. Great defense with Troy Polamalu and Lamarr Woodley.

2. N.Y. Giants: If they didn't have a loss they would be first on this list. It was a hard call as they have a tougher division then the team above them. They are playing as well as ever, maybe dare I say, better than last year.

1. Tennessee Titans: 6-0, the only undefeated team left in the league. That speaks for itself, Jeff Fischer has kept this team together despite losing Vince Young in the beginning. He is going to keep playing Kerry Collins at quarterback until he struggles or loses games. Their rookie running back Chris Johnson has really proved that he can get big gains and touchdowns. Johnson is a decent sleeper pick for rookie of the year.

NFL Football Picks - Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans are coming off one of the best seasons in franchise history. With a 13-3 regular season record its hard to believe that they needed a lot of help in the off-season. However, as with any NFL team, you can always get better. Did the Titans do enough in the off-season to merit consideration as a Super Bowl contender? Will they even make it back to the playoffs? If you're looking for free NFL preseason picks, don't expect the Titans to even be the top team in their division, let alone the entire NFL.

The Good News: The best thing that you can say about the Titans is that they still have their unbelievable rushing attack. Last year, the "Thunder and Lightning" tandem of LenDale White and Chris Johnson led the Titans offensive attack. Chris Johnson proved that he is one of the up-and-coming running backs in the league. His combination of speed and power is unmatched in the NFL. He was the fastest player at the combine coming out of college, but his elusiveness was a question mark. However, after a full season, we now know that he is the real deal. Look for more of the carries to shift his direction as the season goes on. They also added another decent wide receiver in Nate Washington from the Steelers.

The Bad News: Probably the biggest setback of the offseason was losing "All-World" defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth to the Washington Redskins in the opening minutes of free agency. He signed a $100 million contract to make him the highest paid defender in league history. His brand of punishing play in the middle of the defense is not found anywhere else in the league. He will be a very tough player to replace. A talent like him does not come along very often and the Titans will not be nearly as strong on defense as a result.

They also will not be that dynamic on offense. Their pass game is still a liability in most cases. They don't have a #1 wide receiver on the roster and Nate Washington isn't about to change that. Kerry Collins is still their quarterback and he's not getting any younger. Then behind him, you've got one of the biggest head cases in professional sports in Vince Young. The only thing their offense has going for it is Chris Johnson with the occasional dose of Lendale White. Their defense might not be able to win them 13 games this year.

Outlook: Don't look for the Titans to repeat their performance from last year. As far as NFL football betting picks go, expect the Titans to be overtaken by the Texans and Colts and finish third in their division. They'll still be competitive, but overall, I think the Texans did enough to surpass them in the division. Even the Jaguars might jump up and compete in this division. They're only one season away from having a very good team and you never know what could happen. This division will be a knock-down, drag-out fight the whole way.

Chris Johnson Reaches 2,000 Rush Yards

Chris Johnson has just completed a dream season. This was simply one of the best seasons in recent memory for a running back, and one of the greatest in the history of the sport.

During the team's week 17 win against the Seahawks, Johnson led the Titans to a victory over Seattle by the score of 17-13. While the game was meaningless for both teams as far as playoff hopes were concerned, there was one important milestone that occurred during the course of this football game.

Chris Johnson had an opportunity to break the 2,000 rush yard mark on the season, and he would become just the sixth player in NFL history to accomplish this milestone.

All he would need was 128 yards during the course of the game. While this would normally seem like a tall order, it was extremely doable for the skilled RB.

After all, he had already topped 100 or more rush yards in each of his last ten games. Additionally, he had an opportunity to set the single season record for the most total yards from scrimmage, as his 483 receiving yards on the year gave him some even more impressive all around totals.

Incredibly, he was able to accomplish both of these things on the same day. With 134 rush yards, Johnson's total eclipsed the 2,000 mark by 6 yards, and a few catches brought him past Marshall Faulk for the all-time yards from scrimmage record in a season.

Both of these accomplishments should be greatly commended. The young talent entered his second year of pro football with high expectations, but no one expected him to be the premiere running back in the league.

17 weeks later, Johnson has accomplished what no one else was able to, and he did it on a team that largely struggled during the beginning of the season. My hat goes off to him on this tremendous feat.

Tennessee Titans Fall to 0-3 in 2009

Not many people would have thought the Titans would start the season this badly. This could mean the Titans' season is already over before it really started.

The Titans play in the AFC South, the same division as the Indianapolis Colts - this doesn't bode well for the Titans. Once you dig yourself a hole in the NFL in the beginning, you spend the rest of the season trying to climb out of it.

It's not that the Titans are a bad team. In 08' the Titans went 13-3, winning the AFC South and overthrowing the Colts. This year QB Kerry Collins is completing less then 59% of his pass attempts - granted the Titans have an average receiving core.

The running game of the Titans is more dangerous, as Chris Johnson and LenDale White are a formidable running duo.

The Titans' defense has been good at stopping the run but not much else. The Titans are among the worst in the NFL in points per game allowed and passing yards per game allowed.

They don't seem to be doing anything different then last year - which might be the problem this year.

With the loss of DT Albert Haynesworth, the Titans defense may not be as strong as it once was but they still have defensive skill players such as Cortland Finnegan, Chris Hope, Keith Bulluck, and Nick Harper.

It is hard to believe that a team coached by Jeff Fisher will continue to play this way for an entire NFL season.

Since the Titans play in the same division as the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans, hopefully they can get some "easy" wins against them and other below average teams to finish the season with a respectable record.

This can either be a very long season for the Tennessee Titans - or it can be one where they find out what they are made of bouncing back from a bad start.

Colts-Titans - A Tale of the Winning and the Winless

In a case of extremes, the 4-0 Colts step into Tennessee to face the disappointing 0-4 Titans. For Indianapolis, Peyton & co. are making winning look easy. The Titans, on the other hand, have already surpassed their loss total from last season as they try to keep their season alive against an explosive Colts squad.

Colts on Offense

As always, the Indy offensive attack starts with Peyton Manning, who has completed 71% of his passes and is playing near-perfect football. Peyton is making everyone around him better, including rookie receiver Austin Collie and 2nd year man Pierre Garcon. Peyton Manning should look to feed them early and keep their confidence going. Then there's veterans Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark, who have the potential to make big plays anytime they get the ball. Peyton should have a field day with this group against Tennessee's league-worst pass defense and a beaten-up secondary. On the ground, Joseph Addai can wear down the Titans and rookie Donald Brown is versatile enough to catch the ball and make plays out of the backfield. Indy's high-powered offense can overwhelm the Titans and demoralize them in the 1st half. Defensively, Tennessee has to use their pride and the crowd's energy to their advantage and just play like they have nothing to lose. That could take pressure off the daunting task of defending Peyton and the Colts.

Titans on Offense

Unlike Indy, the Titans haven't had the same QB leadership from Kerry Collins, who has thrown 6 picks in 4 games this season. Still, it looks like Jeff Fisher is sticking with his veteran for now. Plenty of people within the Titans organization may be questioning Fisher's decision and wondering when Vince Young will get another chance. But as for this week, Collins or Young, it really doesn't matter because neither one will outscore Peyton. To be fair, the 36 year-old Collins is not all to blame. The rushing duo of Chris Johnson and LenDale White has underachieved so far, especially in the past 2 games. Johnson can give the Titans a spark if he breaks a few runs for big gains, and he is also a safe receiving option. Collins will look to rookie Kenny Britt, who has become a top receiver for the Titans. Nate Washington has shown that he can be a good redzone option by catching a touchdown in each of his last 3 games. The Titans need to capitalize on those situations as well as 3rd down conversions if they want to make this game interesting. The Tennessee O-line also has to deal with Indy's front 4 on defense, including Dwight Freeney's dizzying spin moves. This will make it that much tougher for the immobile Collins to get rid of the football.

The Titans have another chance to win their first game of the season, but unfortunately for them they'll be running into the wrong team this week. Peyton and the Colts will keep their streak going, as Tennessee keeps their's going too.

NFL Football Picks and NFL Expert Predictions - Tennessee Titans Preview For the 2010 Season

The Tennessee Titans started the 2009 season by going 0-6 and turned their season around once Vince Young got the start to finish the season 8-2 just missing the playoffs. Although the tide changed for the Titans when Young was named the starter, the most significant impact player on the team and maybe in the entire NFL other than Peyton Manning was running back Chris Johnson.

Johnson is one of the most dynamic runners the NFL has seen in a long time and became the NFL's best running back by rushing for 2,006 yards and an amazing 49 carries of over 10 yards or more last season. With Johnson's unique talents and unmatched speed by anyone in the NFL, the Titans are now a run first offense that brings a lethal combination with Young at the quarterback position who had an 82.8 passer rating but is also a dynamic runner.

The Titans will pose an offensive threat with these two skilled players but they will need to improve their receiving core as they will count on a 2nd year player in Kenny Britt who will be their number one receiver going into the season. Britt produced big numbers in his first year catching 42 balls for 701 yards which was fifth in Titans history for a rookie while he scored three touchdowns averaging 16.7 yards per reception. If Britt can step up and improve this year bringing a third dimension to this offense, the Titans who were 12th in total offense last year will be hard for any NFL defense to stop.

The Tennessee defense that was considered to be aging cleared house and added 10 new defenders to a roster that was ranked 28th in total yards and scoring last season. The most noted players that are gone on defense are Kyle Varden, Jevon Kearse and Keith Bullock who played 10 years for the Titans and was the defensive captain. They have added players who will make an impact this season in linebacker Will Witherspoon and a rookie pass rusher Derrick Morgan who was ranked 10th in the draft overall amongst NFL experts although the leadership of the defense will be in question.

Jeff Fisher has been one of the NFL's top coaches for years but he will be faced with the challenge of putting all the new pieces together coming into this season. The Titans have brought in a lot of talent and will improve from 2009 but someone will have to take over the leadership role and form an identity for this team. The Titans will have to gain some confidence and win early especially playing in the tough AFC South Conference with the Colts and Texans. Our NFL experts for NFL Picks report that Chris Johnson has a chance to be the first running back in NFL history to gain 2000 yards in consecutive years and if he does complete that feat, the Titans will have a chance to make some noise in the playoffs.

Tennessee Titans 2010 Predictions

The Tennessee Titans were a see-saw bunch in 2009 after coming off a 2008 season that saw them with the best regular season record in the NFL. They then started 0-5 last season, which was bad enough, but in Week 6 things reached complete rock bottom. The Patriots won 59-0 in the snow at Foxborough in one of the most embarrassing moments in Titans/Oilers history.

New England's Tom Brady threw five touchdowns passes in one quarter and the Pats built the biggest halftime lead in league history, 45-0. The 59-point margin matched the largest since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970. It was the largest shutout in the NFL since 1976. And it was the Titans franchise's worst loss since it began play in 1960 as the Houston Oilers, eclipsing the 61-7 blowout to Cincinnati in 1989.

Obviously, people began to wonder if Jeff Fisher, the NFL's longest-tenured coach, would be fired. But one good thing did happen in that Pats loss: Tennessee starting QB Kerry Collins was 2-for-12 for minus-7 yards, and that effectively ended his tenure as the team's starter and basically forced Fisher - with a little public prodding from owner Bud Adams - to turn back to former Rookie of the Year Vince Young.

And shockingly, the Titans turned back into a playoff-caliber team. They would win the next five games, with Young not putting up great stats (other than a dramatic comeback win against the Cardinals) but basically handing the ball to Chris Johnson, who finished the season with 11 consecutive 100-yard rushing games on the way to being the sixth member of the 2,000-yards-in-a-season club. Tennessee actually had playoff hopes before getting walloped by San Diego in Week 16, but an 8-2 record after that start brought a ray of hope for 2010.

Clearly, Johnson will be the focal point of the offense again, with CJ saying he wants to hit 2,500 yards rushing. Again Young will be asked to simply manage the game and not make mistakes, but he'll have to stretch the field once in a while. Kenny Britt was one of two rookie wide receivers to lead his team in receiving yardage in 2009 (with 701 yards on 42 catches) and should emerge as the No. 1 guy this year.

The defense was absolutely horrible against the pass last year and the Titans let end Kyle Vanden Bosch and linebacker Keith Bulluck go as free agents. They are hoping first-round pick Derrick Morgan can replace Vanden Bosch's pass-rush skills. But there are many questions on this side of the ball and it could be the team's downfall.

The Titans' 'over/under' for season NFL betting lines is 8.5. Let's break down the 2010 Tennessee Titans schedule (all times Eastern):

Week 1: Sunday, Sep. 12, Oakland, 1:00 PM
Week 2: Sunday, Sep. 19, Pittsburgh, 1:00 PM
Week 3: Sunday, Sep. 26, at NY Giants, 1:00 PM
Week 4: Sunday, Oct. 3, Denver, 1:00 PM
Week 5: Sunday, Oct. 10, at Dallas, 4:15 PM
Week 6: Monday, Oct. 18, at Jacksonville, 8:30 PM
Week 7: Sunday, Oct. 24, Philadelphia, 1:00 PM
Week 8: Sunday, Oct. 31, at San Diego, 4:05 PM
Week 9: BYE
Week 10: Sunday, Nov. 14, at Miami, 1:00 PM
Week 11: Sunday, Nov. 21, Washington, 1:00 PM
Week 12: Sunday, Nov. 28, at Houston, 1:00 PM
Week 13: Sunday, Dec. 5, Jacksonville, 1:00 PM
Week 14: Thursday, Dec. 9, Indianapolis, 8:20 PM
Week 15: Sunday, Dec. 19, Houston, 1:00 PM
Week 16: Sunday, Dec. 26, at Kansas City, 1:00 PM
Week 17: Sunday, Jan. 2, at Indianapolis, 1:00 PM
If you believe in schedule strength, it's not good news for folks with Tennessee football picks: this is tied as the toughest schedule in the league with an opponents' 2009 winning percentage of.547 (140-116). Yet despite that, there are only five games against playoffs teams so that's somewhat misleading.

Frankly, there's no reason this team should start any worse than 3-1. The Titans are 6.5-point favorites in Week 1 against Oakland and also will be favored in home games against the Steelers (remember, no Ben Roethlisberger) and the Broncos. Last season the team opened with four of six on the road, so things look much better for a different start in 2010.

Then things get emphatically tougher with four of the next five on the road. And the lone home game has Tennessee on a short week against the Eagles. Oddly, the Titans have a nine-game winning streak against the NFC heading into the 2010 season, but I assure you that ends at some point this year. The Chargers made Young look really bad last year, as VY threw two interceptions and lost a fumble on his way to an 11.9 passer rating.

Then after a very winnable home game against the Redskins, the Titans' play five of their final six against AFC South foes. That's pretty unusual to have them all bunched like that in the NFL Power Rankings. Tennessee finishes at Indy for the third time in four years but that game hasn't tended to matter because playoff positions had been locked up.

If the Titans do start 3-1 I believe they can squeak by the 8.5 wins and finish 9-7. But the defense has too many questions and Young is still too erratic. Look for probably another 8-8 or maybe 7-9 so take the 'under'.

Chris Johnson is the Fastest Player in the NFL

Years before rushing for over 2,000 yards for the Tennessee Titans in 2009 running back Chris Johnson broke records at East Carolina University during his college days while playing for the ECU Pirates. While the pro bowler and current National Football League (NFL) star is widely considered the fastest player in the NFL (based on his 40 yard dash time) his collegiate days at East Carolina University were also highly productive long before he was a household name and the prize of fantasy football drafts.

Growing up in Orlando, Florida Johnson was not a highly recruited prospect due in part to his relatively small size of roughly 5'10" and 170 pounds. Despite a lack of recruitment by big time college football programs Chris did find a spot on the roster of the East Carolina University (ECU) Pirates team located in Greenville, North Carolina. As a Florida native Johnson gradually adapted to the North Carolina landscape and progressively improved his football skills to the point where he had a breakout season as a college senior at ECU when he tallied nearly 3,000 all-purpose yards (2,960) and punched in 24 touchdowns. Those numbers earned Johnson the high honor of being named an All-American, a honor that would later play a role in contributing to his being taken in the first round of the NFL draft which is a rare feat for a player from ECU to perform when coming out of the less heralded mid-major Conference USA.

In addition to setting a school record for all-purpose yardage as a senior Chris set numerous other records throughout his college career. As a freshman alone he broke eight school season or game records in terms of unprecedented levels of achievement by a freshman at East Carolina. In his sophomore and junior years of college he would go on to set school records for single season receptions and career receptions by a running back.

The knack that Chris Johnson has for setting records continued in his transition from college to the pros as he tied the NFL combine record for the fastest 40 yard dash time run by any player at 4.24 seconds. After a successful rookie campaign in an offensive scheme that had him sharing playing time with a complimentary back (the larger LenDale White) Chris Johnson exceeded the expectations of even his most optimistic proponents with a record shattering second year performance that saw him eclipse the NFL record for yards from scrimmage (rushing yards plus receiving yards) in a single season. The record was previously held by Marshall Faulk. The new high water mark surpassed a milestone as Johnson tallied 2,509 yards from scrimmage.

If history is any indication of future success it would seem quite certain that Chris Johnson is not yet done with his record breaking performances.

By the age of 24 with only two seasons under his belt Chris Johnson has already achieved more NFL fame than most professional football players do in their entire careers. When he's not breaking records Johnson is likely resting with an East Carolina University blanket while being thankful that the somewhat obscure college (by big time football standards) took a chance on him when he was an unheralded undersized high school kid.

Titans Tennessee Scouting Report

Tennessee Titans didn't do too badly in 2007, but they are far from their objectives to dominate the American football Conference South division. The 49th season will also be their eleventh season of Tennessee. Since the record of the previous year was 10 - 6, they are not necessarily looking to enhance, as far as they seek to extract some too large. Looking at the Euro 2008 NFL draft can highlight an indication to their future success. That team select and for what purpose?

The first round pick was Chris Johnson of the University of Carolina reverse is.The second selection round was Jason Jones, serving as a defensive tackle, University of Michigan orientale.Ils joined tight end Craig Stevens of the University of California, William Hayes of Winston-Salem State University, wide receiver Lavelle Hawkins at the University of California, Stanford Keglar Purdue University linebacker defensive winger and cornerback Williams Washburn University Press.

What was the reaction critical sampling team? Pick Chris Johnson first round left scratching head, many experts as Johnson is estimated to be a good player but hardly first choose hardware. The critical consensus is that Johnson could easily chosen along with countless other names at a later stage in the project. This approach closer policy Titans (or lack thereof) for three years. First, with team by selecting LenDale White in the 2nd cycle of two years; then Chris Henry to round two in 2007; now the Titans still invested in a choice of premium project in a unique position. As the previous seasons, unfortunately, the Titans still do not have an A-level NFL starter. Some critics have suggested that team is choose quantity quality, by refusing to call for a talent phénoménal.Les Titans had access to choose each catcher pass in the project along with players like Vince Young or Devin Thomas. Some fans of Titans have objected to this line of reasoning saying that Chris Johnson is a versatile player, which can be a pacesetter for offensive team.

The defensive line was another matter, that the team has recently lost three major players to free agency. What they do to strengthen their defensive line? They chose Jason Jones recently played position as a defensive tackle, but worthy still counts as a versatile player.Jones means weight and six foot five books 270, which has affected some fans who notice that this is a pretty big player end base.Craig Stevens showed some capabilities in colleges but coaching, blocking appears to display the speed and flexibility as his greatest talent. Fans and experts agree that it will be probably limited in its role as a 2nd or 3rd string specialist blocking, not too impressive for a third round pick. Defensive winger William Hayes received critical, as it was said to be drafted too early, given that most teams have even him rated as a prospect.

What is the strategy of Tennessee Titans this season? nobody knows course, at least, not this at the beginning of this year. One thing seems a data: the Titans are either will play really good or really bad this time.Since they improved their score from previous years in 2007, you have to give them the benefit of the doute.Voyons if these talents undervalued may surprise Titans fans and offer a great season!

10 Football ornament in Mid patrols target players

In the coming months, I am sure, that you will hear many studs, duds and ties. Here is a list of players who don't really fall into either of these categories. These are solid players will currently in Middle rounds if you are aware of can you afford to be much more confident in the first rounds.

You can take advantage of the best available players because you know what to expect in upcoming tours and does the project simply according to besoins.Bien that these are not all famous players targeting these guys in middle-high can change your entire project strategy and the results that see you considerably.

Running Backs

Cedric Benson - a new tackle and veteran weapons around lui.Les Bengals have developed in the new zone and man blocking schemes to suit his style of the North-South running and have been pleasantly surprised by its speed on sweeps by of John Clayton in the huddle. Seems primers to enjoy a unique opportunity in a resurgence offence and will be the only featured back. That it be written any where between 4-8, towers excellent value in the 6th and later.

2. Derrick Ward - although bear defenses Brandon Jacobs down and the great offensive line Giants had much to do with success of New York, district it always successful to put up more than 1,000 metres on a monster macrocephalus on 3.Fairly well cleaned Bucs House in the off-season and looking for a new start. I think that Ward is clearly the most talented and most reliable backup in Tampa Bay, and I look for him to surpass its current ADP of 54th overall.

3 LenDale White - is 20 pounds lighter and come in a contract year. The Titans will probably not be as good this year without Albert Haynesworth and Tennessee would develop role of Chris Johnson, but the scores still much (22 times in the past two years, 15 times last year) .Taille Johnson is a problem and he did get injured in the match of the qualifying year dernier.Dans all, 71 global ADP, it is a great value especially in League scoring.

Rashard Mendenhall - get a chance on short yardage goaline among best autour.Son shoulder franchise opportunities is healed, it has fresh legs and I expect the Steelers him use much more particularly in the second half of the season, when the wheels tend to fall for fast Willie Parker. Current ADP is 97th overall so stay on the lookout for him in the towers 9 and higher.

Quarterbacks

5 Donovan McNabb - the Eagles really took care of their star this season with a new contract, writing several assets on offense and negotiation for a post left tackle. Moreover, I still don't think Donovan has forgotten when Andy Reid benched him last year.It could really do the owner one experienced in the 6th team where ring is currently in development.

Matt Schaub - a quarter of an entry-level n ° 1 picked in round 6-8 middle. He filled nicely for me last year when Houston played Detroit and consecutive Cincinnati before getting injured. The potential for escape with a retail environnante.Il was 5 points per game in the quarter by Chris Dowling footballguys.com, and as Chris says its value comes if he can stay healthy.

Tony Romo - people will sleep on him, because he no longer has T.O and Dallas is expected to move to a more offensive execution orienté.Cependant, I read a fascinating comment of Carson Palmer in a radio interview recently about how Jon Kitna really helped during his years of best so far.Don't forget that there always among the best ending tight and offensive lines in the game.I expect he initially a little slower but much stronger because of the absence of drama without T.O. and additional advice Kitna end this year to provide solid statistics for its current ADP 59ième overall.

Wide receivers

8 OchoCinco - hampered by injuries and lost his quarter year dernier.La most people just don't him like or are tired of hearing about his antics, but the fact is that there should be a better year in 09 'u.s.' good it extends beyond the fourth round ready to pull the trigger.

9 Bernard Berriane - now that Favre is officially with the Vikings, the stock should increase régulièrement.Bien that Minnesota live and die by gunslinger Brett style like teams in his past, I expect yet him he air out enough to Berriane be a large eye blow in round 6-8 as a WR3 with a potential for solid 2 WR numbers or a solid flex play.Je Middle him mentioned in my article titled "The Favre effect" as the largest beneficiary signature thus.

10 Anthony Gonzalez - probably the most neglected 3rd year receiving this Colts année.Les always have a legitimate No. 1, even without Harrison, a level 1 in Dallas Clark, tight end not step to mention Peyton Manning .Peyton trust him last year in clutch situations so that it will not hesitate to give targets more Gonzo.Actuellement, is going in the 5th end which is low for me but still certainly someone to keep an eye on.

NFL Football Picks Preview - Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans come out of one of the best seasons in the history of the franchise. With a regular season 13 - 3 record its hard to believe that they need much help in the off-season. However, as with any NFL team, you can always better. The Titans do enough in the dead to merit consideration as a race of Super Bowl season? They even make it to the series? If you are looking for free NFL pre-season, don't expect not choose the Titans to the best team in their division, not to mention the entire NFL.

The good news: The best thing you can say about the Titans is that they always their incredible turbulent attack. Last year, "Thunder and Lightning" tandem LenDale White and Chris Johnson led the Titans offensive attack. Chris Johnson has shown it is a running back is a League. Its combination of speed and power is unmatched in the NFL. It was the fastest player combine harvester from College, but his balance was a question mark. However, after a season complete, we know now that it is real business.Looking over the door that the season is his direction.Ils also added another receiving broad decent Nate Washington since the Steelers.

Bad News: Probably the biggest setback the NHL lost "Everyone" defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth for the Washington Redskins in the minutes of the opening of free agency. It has signed a contract for 100 million dollars for him make paid advocate higher in the history of the League. His brand of exhausting game in the middle of the defence is not found anywhere else in the Ligue.Il will be very difficult to replace player. A talent like him does not along very often and the Titans will be almost as strong defence accordingly.

They will also dynamic on the offensive. Set password is always a liability in most cases. They have a wide receiver # 1 on the registry and Nate Washington isn't about to change that.Kerry Collins is still their quarter and it is not getting any jeune.puis behind him, you have one of the largest case sits in professional sports in Vince Young. Will only have their offensive is Chris Johnson with the occasional dose of Lendale White. The defence may not be able to win 13 games this year.

Outlook:Don't find the Titans to repeat their performance last year. All go NFL football picks Paris, expect the Titans to be exceeded by the Texans Colts and complete their division.Ils third will be always competitive, but overall, I think that the Texans have sufficiently exceed expectations in the division.Even the Jaguars could return and compete in this division.Ils have a single season far having a very good team and you never know what arriver.Cette division will be a knock-down, drag-out together how to fight.
